As for Qui-Gon, I think what George was trying to get across with his character is demonstrating what kind of Jedi Anakin could've been had he properly completed his training as a Jedi.

No. That's not how it works. The will of the Force is for Anakin to destroy the Sith and restore balance to the Force. That's it. What happens leading up to that is purely up to the people on the ground, not least Anakin.
