In a low-fertility scenarion, which is close to what we have observed in recent years, global population could already peak in the 2050s at about 8.7 billion people and decline to 7.3 billion by the end of the century (see figure in the comments).

Whereas in the past decades it took about 12 years to add one billion people to the global population, the UN projects that increasing today’s 8 billion people to 9 billion will take 14 years (until 2037), and that the 10 billion mark will only be crossed after a further 21 years (in 2058).

During the second half of the 20th century, the global population grew roughly 2% per year but in the first two decades of the 21st century, population growth was about 1.2% per year. Carbon emissions per capita have already peaked in 2011.

Sicher geht es viel zu langsam voran. Trotzdem ist in einigen Bereichen in den letzten Jahren viel passiert. Aus globaler Perspektive hat sich die Energiewende drastisch beschleunigt, Elektroautos sind dabei, sich durchzusetzen, etc. Ich denke, wir sollten auch positive Entwicklungen anerkennen.
