I am fast-brained right now? It’s… idk. I’ve never had mania—and honestly don’t know how it’d react with my chronic fatigue—but it’s weirdAF to be sitting closer to that edge than the other one for once?

But. That’s a different issue than that of normalizing inequalities.

Ok. So. (Again)

At some point I have questions about feminism and classism since we come from very different socio-economic worlds. But that is very much a not-here convo.

And then (and then)—how do we (a) better break free from that (I mean, the personal experience thread seems to be “listening to kids and/or outsiders”) but also (b) be able to TEACH that to others who are ensnared in the normalization?
November 14, 2025 at 9:51 PM
Because (a) what a bitch thing to say but more importantly (b) why *AM I* accepting this bullshit as “just the way it is”?

And so I’m wondering about parallel between that and the generation gaps between feminist movements. How we get stuck in what’s normalized and become part of the problem

(This is fascinating to me and I’d love to chat it out sometime)

Ok. So. There’s a thing where sometimes a transfem friend will get indignant about some piece of misogyny that I’ve normalized and it feels Really Easy to belittle that and be like “welcome to womanhood” and I’ve had to retrain that

Right. That’s the place I see improvement and it’s a general trend not a specific city. But also, it’s (kinda) minor when compared to either the earlier rate of improvement (1995-2010) or the massive list of things that need doing.
November 14, 2025 at 9:24 PM
I’ve lived in many US cities and my general assessment of most of them was that they greatly improved between 1995-2010, but either stagnated or backslid 2010-2025.

The only places where I see progress in the last 15 are the cities that improved bike transit.

Maybe I’m just too old and cynical.

On of my favorite (it’s who framed Roger Rabbit. The transit line narrows it down to the single title)

That’s such not a spoiler I’m not even sure what part you’re referring to! 😆 But yeah, definitely one of those stories that stays with you.

I’m down for duels at daybreak personally, but that’s my starting limit

For real for real. It's just that if I go down that route, I'd have to write an essay on favorite titles because it would be hard to get it to <50. At least sticking with adult & fiction, I have a chance of keeping it a top 20 list.
November 12, 2025 at 3:40 PM
I didn't put 13th Tale on my list, but it was a very close call. And I also deliberately left out pretty much any YA, otherwise Secret Circle would also probably have made it for me as well. And yeah... I have canonically decided my tattoo is a reference to the artist and not the writer because NO.

Oh gods make it stop! Other soul-changing books:
AJ Hackwith’s Hell’s Library series
Schaeffer’s City of Nightmares series
