Forgive my ignorance, but I can't understand why wealthy Americans live in boarded-up houses - in bone-dry locations - in canyons with wooded slopes on all sides - with no idea what they will do if there is a fire.
At the very least, I would build a brick house with a sprinkler system on the roof.
