The results of this study, published in Australian Mammalogy, provide essential baseline data to help track population changes and detect early warning signs of decline for two of Australia’s endangered arboreal marsupials.

By flying #ThermalDrones across 47 sites, the team detected 56 koalas and 127 gliders across 1175 hectares of bushland.

Koala density averaged 0.13 per hectare, while glider density was slightly higher at 0.17 per hectare.
