Non-practising solicitor and Assistant Professor in Housing Law at Northumbria University. Research focus on AI and legal education. Also gay and in a very happy relationship - and may not care who knows it! 🙂
I went into law because of Star Trek (TOS, TNG, DS9, etc), Buck Rogers, Quincy, Ironsides, Perry Mason, Columbo and so many other series. What is now seen as twee, I saw as aspirational. When did we lose that?

Free speech is free speech, it's not the preserve of the far right or left. To claim to champion free speech while trying to shut down opposing voices is the antithesis of free speech

Also, @suellabravermanmp.bsky.social if the SQE exams are that easy, you're qualified as a barrister, so please sit them...

@suellabravermanmp.bsky.social maybe if you want to have a discussion with someone who knows something about SQE rather than playing to your followers, you might want to reach out? Especially given many of us have substantial practical legal experience? www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/08...

To any lawyers out there thinking the SQE is a "fair" assessment of candidates' ability - 1 "single best answer" MCQ every 90 seconds without publishing the questions... Oh, and all candidates have to sign a NDA... the SRA have a lot to answer for (not least the lack of oversight)!

Had an amazing #LSA2025 with some really thought provoking papers in the Law and Technology stream, followed by five days sightseeing in Chicago - a beautiful city with some great people!

Sorry for the poor picture, but just purchased this in Chicago and don't want to remove the dust cover to protect it on the flight home (100% donated to Ukraine causes) - a collection of stories about "oberih" - an item that protects

Looking forward to a packed day at #LSA2025 kicking off with Callum discussing how we can better support children in private law proceedings

@kemibadenochmp.bsky.social abandoning the European Convention on Human Rights, drafted by Conservative lawyers under Winston Churchill, is a fundamentally flawed policy.

happy first birthday to Bluesky, and what a year it's been!

with every day, the need for an open network that puts people first becomes increasingly clear. we're glad to be building this with you. after all, the heart of a social network is the people.

Seriously? So, if you're fleeing an abusive partner, have claimed some assistance in terms of housing or benefits, you shouldn't be a citizen of the UK...? Grow up and get a grip on why you lost! BBC News - I'd make it harder to get British citizenship, says Badenoch

Make it harder to get British citizenship, urges Kemi Badenoch
The Conservative leader says people shouldn't be able to apply for citizenship for at least 15 years.

Good morning.

Word of the Day is as beautiful as it is underused. ‘Confelicity’ is finding joy in the happiness and success of others.
