Felt like many writers appealed specifically to Jokic’s stat line that year, which was, of course, magnificent. But if there were a narrative reason to give Embiid the MVP any year, it was that year; giving it to him the next year felt like a make-up call.

Have always felt that (especially according to more traditional, narrative-based voting) Embiid ought to have won it the year before he actually did, given how excellent he was in the mess of the Simmons saga which took place that year.
