Congratulations! What a great story it was, and one of @wilwheaton.net best performances so far.

First year out of college for me. Struggling to utilize my computer science degree and trying my hand at short story writing in the meantime. But that album, and R.E.M. in general, are, for me, the soundtrack of an uncertain future.

That…or you will forever change the narrative on the topic to something more flexible and useful.

Space Cadet by Heinlein was first, but second was The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, also Heinlein, and that was the one that blew my eleven year-old mind.

It’s remarkable how fun it is to nerd talk about a world and characters from books I found so hard to consume. I learned all about Middle Earth lore from friends who were avid readers and enthusiastic to share. Tolkien as a set of oral history lessons worked great for me.

The variation on this topic that benefits me is what I can learn from “just-missed” storytelling in TV and movies. Sometimes I’ll start a show, love the premise and characters, but remain unsatisfied. Then I try to figure out why. That’s always happening subconsciously, but sometimes it’s a mission.

You did not do Titansgrave “years ago.” A year or two at most…that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Careful, John…you’ll blow your “I live in rural Ohio” cover story.

What a lovely bit of joy. (And I’ve also watched Tom Holland more than a few times.😀)

I’ve found that most good contractors, when engaged courteously and with genuine interest are not uncomfortable being observed and happy to explain stuff. It’s a comforting feeling to know there are wizards out there that specialize in pipe magic and wiring magic.

I saw you do a humorous routine with @wilwheaton.net at PXCC about 13ish years ago, loved it, checked out Old Man’s War, drifted into the Scalzi internet presence from there and followed it here.

It’s so cool! And what an amazing story. I loved it.

This is so, so true. I have not reached a success level that yet draws much criticism, but the silence early can be frustrating. Those occasional kind words are like a drink of cool, crisp water on a hot day.
