As a reminder. You are always free to choose empathy. And to sustain a norm of concern and kindness for those most in need. It isn't weakness. It makes you strong. Think tree roots supporting each other through mycelium strands of connection, communication, and relief.
I wrote an invited piece about empathy and the election. Just in time for turkey day. People may not want empathy as much as it seems. But... that means we should reinforce desires to empathize now more than ever.

If I were in charge of the human body's Department of Government Efficiency, I'd cut 90% of the brain's energy budget. It's 2% of our body mass but uses 20% of our energy? Ridiculous

The academic world I want to live in is the one where scholars spend 100s of hours self correcting. I have deep admiration for Juliana and the work she has done bringing to light some of the challenges in her earlier work. I’m amazed at her humility.
the fallout from the Francesca Gino research misconduct scandal isn't over. @engber.bsky.social writes about how an effort by some of her colleagues to self-audit their work with her ended up raising even more questions — for them personally and their whole field www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

Sign I may be past the “young and relatable” professor era of my career - few students now recognize the TV clips I use. Today, only 2/48 students recognized the negotiation clip from 30 Rock, though more had seen the office and at least a quarter had seen the 1987 movie Wall Street.

Excited to finally be making the jump over here. Any clever content will come from my new(ish) collaborator! A preemptive apology for his harsh peer reviews. If a paper doesn’t have a truck or dinosaur on it, he’s not interested.
