Saw some cool ducks today

I’ve advanced to another level of having furry art framed on my wall. Once again, thank you very much to @karbunart.bsky.social for the art!

Imo, the only times the humanoid body plan has convergently evolved—at least as far as I can tell—is with two-toed and three-toed sloths. They are plantigrade, (nearly) tailless with long limbs, flat faces, front-facing eyes, and lack pointed ears.

Yesterday I saw a purple martin mobbing a merlin! I definitely don’t see that every day. Also two birds with names that my autocorrect wants capitalized…

I really lucked out today on shorebirds. I’m no photographer, but I’m quite proud of the photo I got of that killdeer pulling an earthworm out of that mudflat.

1: solitary sandpiper
2: least sandpiper
3: killdeer
4: spotted sandpiper

Went to a spot where I normally get lots of birds, but today it was weirdly quiet. At least I saw this photogenic grasshopper sparrow.

Yesterday I had really good birding (42 species) considering I live in Ontario and it’s July. I even saw two rare birds—the red-headed woodpecker and Tennessee warbler, which are the 1st and 2nd images.

The 3rd image is a yellow-rumped warbler and the 4th is a belted kingfisher.

I’m trying to photograph as many species of #insects as I can. While doing this I have noticed that like 50% of moths can best be described as tiny white speckled toblerones.

Today I finally got my lifer winter wren (Troglodytes hiemalis)! It’s kind of surprising it’s taken me this long to find one of these.

Anyways check out the Finnish band Oranssi Pazuzu if you want to challenge yourself with what I can only describe as black space metal. Especially their album Mestarin Kynsi. I have been autistically listening to the song Ilmestys over and over the past week since this band finally clicked for me.

Yesterday I saw my lifer pectoral sandpiper! I didn’t even know what it was until I looked back at the photos I took of it as it briefly flew around. Two more species until my life list gets to 450!

Saw broad-winged hawks twice today, which is pretty surprising. I only got a decent photo of the first one I saw, though.

Black-and-white warblers and black-throated blue warblers are absolutely gorgeous.

Yesterday I saw my lifer snow goose as well as a greater yellowlegs (which was quite far away unfortunately).

Takes like this bother me because there’s countless awful bigoted bible passages that you absolutely can use to justify all sorts of shit. And yes there are transphobic bible passages like Deuteronomy 22:5. It’s just inaccurate and dishonest to act like the bible holds up with modern society.

Here’s some photos I took of a black-collared hawk that I saw in Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary in #Belize.

I saw my lifer American wigeon (Mareca americana) today! Unfortunately due to the distance the quality is quite crummy. But I’m still happy that I saw one.

A curious yellow-bellied tyrannulet I saw in the Maya Mountains in Cayo, Belize.

Went on a #birding trip for eleven days and didn’t mention or post anything about it… uh… sorry lol. Maybe I’ll post stuff from it periodically. Have a Yucatan woodpecker I saw near Crooked Tree, #Belize.
