Ngl Prime 2 was the first Metroid I played and I haven't played it since, so I don't remember any living troopers. I remember them all being dead.

I usually only do this after I've beaten the game and am...like...grinding for some reason, or if I have to replay part of it.

Those terminally online people exist and will never be satisfied, but I think there is a difference between "some morons being massively upset about Tropical Freeze" and the near universal indifference and panning of Federation Force.

Metroid Prime 4 trolley problem:
Runaway train. Baby Metroid tied to the tracks.
Samus can use telekinesis to flip a lever to divert the train, but next set of tracks has space animals tied to them.
Can flip another lever to divert the train again, next tracks having Myles and 3 other marines.

Yeah, even though Federation Force happened one year before the big renaissance, no one counts it at all lol. That gets bundled with the dark times.

Well yeah, that was the main issue with Federation Force. If we had actively been getting new mainline 2D and Prime games, at worst people would've been like "this game is weird and sucks" and moved on. No one even thinks about it now since we're getting new games.

I don't mind some but also the NPCs in Prime 3 weren't exactly a praised part of the game, so doubling down on them seems unwise.

While I of course like the 2D games, I don't really like the idea of "2D exists so we can just do whatever with Prime and it doesn't matter" (not that you're saying that, it's just a fear), especially given how rarely we get new ones.
Or at least, numbered games should feel more traditional.

Sure but from my recollection, "more NPCs" wasn't considered a positive element of Prime 3, so doubling down on it seems unwise. I also doubt that particular element did anything to broaden the audience.
Just because Prime was headed in that direction doesn't mean it needs to continue.
