Today I Did a Thing. I put on my brigandine armor and took the train into Portland to attend a signing of Elvira's new cook book.
I chatted with a bunch of people, and asked for consent to check out a woman's tattoos. (I'm gaze avoidant, but with explicit permission I'm ok. . .)

I feel the same. Nothing I see on the news is going to change my opinion of the state of US politics. I will continue to be as kind and uplifting as I can, as that is the most effective thing I can do atm. To that end, here is a photo I took last winter that I particularly like.

First picture is some Graveyard Point Plume agate, and the first slab I ever cut and polished.
The second picture is some Willamite and Calcite under 254nm UV from the Franklin mine in NJ. It is a zinc ore, and looks even more impressive in person.

When I got into rockhounding seriously, I found this Amethyst plate at a local rock show. I had my UV flashlight with me, and lit up the calcite crystal. Instantly said "That's going home with me." just as the guy behind me started to make an offer on it.
