I went back over Aethon Shaans head!

Primarily to refine the light hitting the face, which was inconsistent before and while doing that, it also improved the expression, I believe.

First step of actually painting the dread!
This was also the first step of black nmm.

In essence I used the white to indicate just the placement of the light scenario.

I'll glaze it down and add color to it later.
First I just make sure the placement is consistent!'

I painted one of Aethon Shaans alternate helmets this week.

This'll be my entry in the GitGud monthly challenge, which is "Space Marine Head" this November.

I tried to rly push myself with the face, and gave it a fun little backdrop as well. Just for flavor tho.

After 5 years of waiting for the right moment (painting ability) to paint this massive resin chunk of a dreadnought, I finally decided it's time!

With 32 magnets in arms, weapons, head and rocket-battery it's basically an action figure as well.

I had to postpone the update post of last weeks 17 hour painting of the two days I had inbetween SMC and SPIEL.

This is the state of Argel Tal, as I entered it into Golden Demon and won a notable pin with.

Which is amazing, given how unrefined it is! 🥰

WIP picture of the heavily reposed Argel Tal I've been building and painting. The original model kit is produced and sold by Games Workshop / Forgeworld. I customized it with a Custodes Guardian Spear and a few random chaos bits and trinkets. The paintjob is held close to lore-accurate depictions following a "Horus Heresy Legions" card art (seen in another image within this post, which features a lot of saturated reds, with slightly orange leaning highlights and horns being black towards the tips with some fleshy mid tones in the blend toward those black ranges. The Eye lenses of the helmet, as well as the daemonic eyes on pauldron and thigh, are mainly greenwith a blend into yellow toward the center. The spear arm is painted in brown and beige hues, with fine vein details, stippled magenta details to create a sort of sore flesh and black, sharp-looking claws. The serrated sun sigill on the chest as well as the first steel nmm bits of the armor ar painted as such with greys and white as well as some color influences from the environment around the miniature, which is also indicated on thee basing of the plinth. I completed this massive commission project last week - just in time for SMC.

It's been a project defined by artistic freedom, passion and fun more than anything and I hope you enjoyed all 33 wip posts since january 😅❤️

"Apollon, God of Sun", a resin casted 75mil scale character model blending greek mythology with sci-fi stylistic style and shape. With my paintjob for it, I chose to specifically enhance those aspects, which I did by painting shiny nmm in brass and pale blue steel, combined with striking space freehand on the horses, wheels and red cape mainly made up of tiny stippled stars, put in layers with subtle colored glazing and of course, whole galaxies and nebulae, planets and other celestial bodies, for most of which I used actual astrophotography as reference. The fully assembled model of the chariot was mounted on a plinth I 3D-sculpted in blender and printed by miniprinten.nl, who I've been partnered with for years. (code 'cryocheese' for 10% off hehe). I then filler sprayed it, sanded it down (both multiple times in a row), before priming and painting it by flicking paint to look like stars. Model sold by Kimera Models (challenging assembly tho - fair warning) Paints: Kimera pure pigment paints Brushes: Raphael 8404 "Apollon, God of Sun", a resin casted 75mil scale character model blending greek mythology with sci-fi stylistic style and shape. The fully assembled model of the chariot was mounted on a plinth I 3D-sculpted in blender and printed by miniprinten.nl, who I've been partnered with for years. (code 'cryocheese' for 10% off hehe). I then filler sprayed it, sanded it down (both multiple times in a row), before priming and painting it by flicking paint to look like stars. Model sold by Kimera Models (challenging assembly tho - fair warning) Paints: Kimera pure pigment paints Brushes: Raphael 8404 "Apollon, God of Sun", a resin casted 75mil scale character model blending greek mythology with sci-fi stylistic style and shape. With my paintjob for it, I chose to specifically enhance those aspects, which I did by painting shiny nmm in brass and pale blue steel, combined with striking space freehand on the horses, wheels and red cape mainly made up of tiny stippled stars, put in layers with subtle colored glazing and of course, whole galaxies and nebulae, planets and other celestial bodies, for most of which I used actual astrophotography as reference.
