I think it was more so that the trailer was structured as one of those fake out trailers where they make you think it's DLC for one game (like they did later with Pyra and Mythra), before the big reveal that's it's smash, but they showed it on a literal Smash direct so obviously that doesn't work.

I really want the next smash to be a reboot of sorts: redo most of the returning characters and make each one really stand out. It would really make for a breath of fresh air.
