I am so bad at categorizing bikes in any useful way.

Trying to talk about the difference in the seating position of the Aventon Level versus the Soltera, or the difference between the Radio Flyer L885 (fixed forward handlebars) versus the GSD/HSD (tool-less […]

Good morning. This morning, I was taking a bike ride out to the end of the Minuteman and back before work, and as I arrived at the end of the path, I received a calendar alert on my phone for therapy. So I sat down in a park in Bedford Center, did therapy on […]

* A police officer was parked in the bike lane.
* I asked him to move, and he did, but he was then a dick to me about "having no life".
* I filed a complaint with the police department Professional Standards complaint form.
* I got a call 2 hours […]

Got a ride around Somerville from Coach Balto in the library Bunch Cargo trike tonight.

(For those who don’t know, Coach Balto is a major figure helping drive forward bike buses nationwide.)

Last week, I flew to and from Kentucky on full aircraft. I spent more than an hour around hundreds of people in the crowded Charlotte, North Carolina airport.

Unlike 98% of people in the airport, I was wearing an N95 mask.

Earlier today (5 days after my […]

Good morning.

I am currently in Slade, Kentucky, where the weather is 69 degrees and raining. This week I have ridden a chair lift to the top of the Natural Bridge in Natural Bridge State Park, kayaked inside of a flooded limestone mine, visited Whistling […]

Biked to the airport this morning. Appreciate my Tow Monster, which is designed primarily for towing bikes, but is also useful for carrying relatively vertical cargo like my carryon bag.

Biking took 33 minutes—about 20 minutes shorter than the typical transit trip.

You’d hope that the transit police would be able to do something about the regular bike lane blocking in the Porter Square MBTA bus stop… if the Transit Police vehicle wasn’t literally doing the same thing at the same time. (Police vehicle was about 15’ behind the car.) @BostonBikeBlockers

Two different bike lane blockers as I rolled a bike laden with an air conditioning unit over the hill. Because what I definitely needed was to be forced into the lane to compete with 6pm Summer Street traffic.

@BostonBikeBlockers Genuinely, I can't imagine any place this vehicle operator would be going that stopping here feels _easier_ than just ... pulling into the gas station.
July 9, 2024 at 3:40 PM
Main St. in Medford, at 8:01am.

There is a gas station immediately to the right of this vehicle. The car is directly in front of a building with an attached parking garage specifically for patrons and employees of that building.

It is amusing to see a "Harvard Square real estate man" complaining "But soon there will be too many houses! We need regulation to prevent all these houses from being here!"

He was worried that homes in these buildings would be too cheap, because why would […]

all of these buildings were built _just in 1924-1925_ (and dozens more) in Cambridge, MA, the year before zoning was passed.

(The last one is sadly no longer extant; during the great depression, it lost its four upper floors. It's now the Target location at […]

Google’s canon emissions report showing their data center carbon emissions are up is shitty, but blaming it on AI is a distraction.

Google’s carbon usage is up because they haven’t been able to accomplish expected carbon free energy projects in the Middle […]

Did my part today to take back the streets from cars a little bit, and rode a big stretch of Storrow Drive up and down while it's closed to cars for the Fourth of July.

Sharing another @BostonBikeBlockers: Blocking the bike lane, next to an open parallel parking space, 100' from an off-street parking lot which was less than half full, with both doors open. (10:30am yesterday on Beacon St. in Somerville.)

This morning was the first time this season I’ve taken a fully recreational 20 mile bike ride, restarting a habit I formed last summer and fall. I’ve been getting in 15+ miles before work by doing e-bike library transfers, but today was a loop up through Winchester and Woburn. (Zion Hill peak is…
