That’s how authoritarian regimes are born: a populist leader, stupidity amplified by propaganda, and recency bias feeding apathy. All modern dictators followed this same playbook.

Reading old literature is going to be a slow process until you get used to it. It helps to be mentally prepared for that ahead of time. The biggest obstacle to reading that stuff is your own mental state. Give yourself a goal and when you meet it, give yourself a little reward.

A world where everyone has the chance to live a meaningful life, whether that’s by curing diseases, composing symphonies, or supporting those who do. Isn’t that the future we should aim for?

Most people would agree that a world with less pain is better than a world with more. So maybe the best future is one where we balance both—where people are happy and able to achieve amazing things.
