The fact is so much of this critique is in bad faith. The people making the most noise are not holding themselves to anything like the same standards. That is galling for any right minded person: the hypocrisy stinks.

To extend your analogy, imagine the “critics” are rival restaurant owners who have been lying constantly about how terrible the restaurant is when in fact it is the most beloved in the country, because they want it to close so they can snap up all the customers. Back by a big US investor. 🤣

At a certain point we have to look at the big picture and decide what we want and what is in the public interest. Throwing the BBC to the ghouls serves no one but them. So let’s be annoyed, even angry by this stupid error - but angrier at those trying to profit by harming the public.

The British public deserve a public broadcaster that tries its best to be impartial, and does not deserve a bunch of ideological ghouls hacking apart the corpse of our public services so they can sell the limbs for profit. The BBC deserves reasonable, proportionate criticism - not Armageddon.

To say that because this error occurred the BBC “deserves what they get” is fantastically foolish, though. There is clearly a coordinated campaign by bad faith actors to dismantle the BBC, spurred in part by political animus and in part by desire for personal gain. This incident is part of it.

Obviously I don’t think it happened entirely by accident. Numerous errors of judgment had to have occurred for the edit to go out in the form it did. I don’t see any evidence that it was intentionally misleading, though - especially in the context of the whole show.

It was a mistake, certainly. One of many the BBC have made. Does it justify the absolutely wild exaggerations of the problems within the BBC now being used to delegitimise public broadcasting by billionaires with a direct financial interest in destroying it? No. Eyes on the big picture.

Huzzah! Go to the Fountain on Locust for good food and great ice cream if you’re so inclined! Forest Park is gorgeous and has a big free museum in it! The City Museum is totally unique and very odd, too.
