Colleague had a PhD, and a JD. He related a story of a prof calling him Dr., because of his PhD, and a fellow law student asserting "he's not a 'real' doctor" to which the prof pointed out that PhDs were doctors first.

It is not philanthropy when you are giving money to yourself, or your close friends/family. That is nepotism at best, and corruption at worst.
This is why we need to kill philanthropy as a loophole for taxes, and simply take that money as taxes.

"I am not an 'ah, ah' doctor. I am a 'blah, blah' doctor."
"I am not an 'ah, ah' doctor. I am a 'blah, blah' doctor."

There will always those to take expertise in one area, and convince themselves it makes them experts everywhere else. That is common to everyone, degree holders or not. It is the basis of the Dunning-Kreuger delusion, and I'll admit to having fallen prey to it myself in the past.

Yes, White men (like me) with authority mostly don't need a title to ensure they are treated with deference. though, pointing out the title can work against you (due to antiintellectualism) occasionally

Yeah, not a fan of chiropractors being called “doctor”. They are not a physician, nor have they done the work of a PhD.
I’ve had DO physicians, and have not noticed a difference in care. I’m told their program is a lot better aligned with MD training than it used to be.

Either that, or he sees it will happen anyway, and doesn’t not want the public embarrassment of opposing it, and having his party publicly defect and release anyway.

My home is worth 60% more than when I bought it 3 years ago, and looks to fully double within the next 12 months (house smaller than mine just sold for 2x what I paid )

In Germany, there is a LOT of insistence on the honorific. Hence “Herr Doctor” being a thing (Mr. Dr.). German employer had to tell their German PhDs to cool it about the title when working with non-Germans, to avoid coming off as rude.

That’s not my experience, and I worked at 2 different universities, and sponsored research at over a dozen more.
It could be a discipline specific thing. Mine is pretty low key about that kind of thing. Others introduce me as “Dr”, but I never do.
