This year my birthday is on a Tuesday, and I didn't bother taking it off from work. I don't really care that much about my birthdays any more, but as I sit in meetings today, it made me think "is this what I'm spending my birthday doing?" which led me to "is this the best use of my limited life?"

Since Trump shut down the government he's in charge of, can we make a new one?

It's getting hard to keep track of all the companies I'm supposed to be mad at and why.

We joined a club here that gives us access to a pool (for the rest of the summer, anyhow). It's kinda pricey, but a lot cheaper than building and maintaining a pool.

Updated my profile from working at Niantic to working at Scopely. That seems to be about the extent of the real change so far.

Debugging unit tests is a totally useful not-at-all waste of my finite time left on earth

I got an email from my son's math teacher explaining how to compute the % correct on the test by taking their score and diving by 45 then multiplying that by 100, and I'm going back and forth between feeling insulted and feeling bad for the this dude for the parents he must have to deal with.

I bet the people that work on real AI, not the LLM powered horseshit, are real mad these days. Probably like the real cryptographers that just want to talk about their math with each other.

I thought Discord killed Skype years ago.

Taking BART when you've forgotten your headphones at home is not the worst way to commute, but it is up there.

I was playing the Oblivion remaster a little over the weekend. I really wish all the teams got their shot at remastering. Like the controls are still super clunky, the persuasion minigame is not fun, and the god damned inventory management and wear and tear system is a huge slog.

I went back into the office in SF for the first time in a while today. It was good to see folks in person again. It was weird going to all-hands meetings and actually paying attention instead of having it on in the background while I worked on other things.

I've reached an age where I'm very reluctant to learn new acronyms, which makes it hard to work with security folks.

I've seen former coworkers post about being on the market for a job again, and I've gone to the recruiting folks at work and been like "doesn't matter what role, we should hire this person immediately and figure it out later" and they laugh at me because I'm naive but I sure wish we'd work that way.

I'm really in favor of nonviolent solutions, and I know that going down the path of political violence ends bad, but damn there are a lot of stairs in DC and a lot more fascists that could fall down them.

If you're wondering how we got here, here's 271 hours of I Told You So.

If you haven't already, now would be a good time to start (And no, you don't have to watch the TV show to follow along. Most of our listeners didn't.)

Against my better judgement my wife and I started watching that Rings of Power season 2. Only 2 episodes in: too many ads and too few harfoots. Still don't care about anyone else in this show.

Hello, support? My federal government is failing... What? No no no, I do *not* want to factory reset it.

I contend that no one, including Eddie Vedder, knows the words to Yellow Ledbetter. It's more of a mood than a sequence of words.

I finally just deleted my twitter account. I had not posted there since 2022, and I had not been reading it for a while now, but now it seems like having an account there at all is bad.

I think if I tried to actually read all the emails I get from my kids schools it would be a full time job

I kept hearing that Elden Ring is awesome and the greatest game ever so I finally tried it and fml this game is shit. Is there some part where dying over and over gets fun?
