It’s astonishing to be the radical—promoting equity—but I know my responsibility goes beyond education.

How can we safely express—not seeming alarmist—that this is a turning point where norms cannot be relied upon? Where do you safely communicate?

How do we cultivate a safe environment where the focus can be educational? How do we do we instill the democratic process in our students’ values, encouraging their active involvement?

I write this as a grateful full-time professor in one of the most diverse places in the country (Queens, NYC.) I cannot express the love I have for helping build students’ futures via music. (Amazing women of color in music production forthcoming! My students are fantastic.)

It’s like it’s just, what’s the word? Discrimination?
