In Zimbabwe, being a new mom is now even harder.
In #Zimbabwe, the quiet return of #maternity fees and the black-market sale of essential documents for babies put extra burdens on mothers as they struggle to navigate a broken system.

A good read about what could be next for nonprofit news, featuring our founder @cristihegranes.bsky.social.
In the wake of Trump’s election in 2016, U.S. journalism outlets experienced a surge in donations and subscribers — the “Trump bump” — that extended into 2017 and beyond. This time, it doesn’t appear that the field is experiencing a new surge in funding.

Nonprofit Journalism Hasn’t Experienced Another Post-Election “Trump Bump”
The administration’s funding cuts could change that picture as more people feel the direct impact of Trump policies, moving donors.

"This climate of hostility doesn’t just threaten journalists; it has the potential to create a chilling effect on philanthropy, as fear of political retribution may deter donors from supporting the very journalism that holds power accountable.” #journalism #philanthropy

#Zimbabwe bans the production and distribution of plastic thinner than 30 microns. Chinese-owned manufacturers disregard them, contributing to a pollution crisis. We independently tested samples from #Chinese factories. All were thinner than required, some as thin as 6 microns. shorturl.at/iKbsl

A must read from @scottnover.bsky.social: "Real censorship...is what happens when the government demands that news outlets write one way and use one term and threatens them with unequal access as a result—a decision that will make our country’s poor information ecosystem even poorer."
I wrote about the "Gulf of America," the language police in charge of the U.S. Government, and what real censorship looks like:
The New Trump Administration Is Doing More Than Just Policing Language
When the government does it, it’s real censorship.

Given that style guides are so controversial this week...here's a look at a "popular" entry in the Global Press Style Guide.
GP Style Guide Entry: America
Rule: Do not use America to refer to the United States.

Rationale: Referring to the United States as America demonstrates bias and alienates people across North, South and Central America. Precise geographical references promote reader clarity.
