It is a complex experience. As I left the theater, my mind still processing, I couldn't help but think that, while the film didn't meet all my expectations, it was a reminder of what cinema can do when it takes risks with form, although, in this case, the substance could have been more worked on.

The story is sad, yes, but at times it seems to lack the ability to make you feel the weight of that drama in a more visceral way. What if the music, the rhythm and the editing had been played with more risk at those key moments? Perhaps the film would have left a deeper mark.

Instead of feeling like the camera was getting closer to the essence of the characters, I was left with the feeling of being on the sidelines, unable to truly get involved. Don’t get me wrong, The Brutalist has moments that shine, but those flashes weren’t always enough to elevate the whole.

I imagined how the right music and a touch of slow motion could have given it an insurmountable emotional charge. But the editing fell short.

I’m one of those who enjoys it when the climax comes earlier, about halfway through, and what I may have perceived as points of tension throughout the development came a little late for my taste. One of the most significant scenes, set in a train station, had all the potential to be a highlight.

I searched in vain for a spark of action, a climax, something to shake me up emotionally… and while the ending had its interesting moments, I feel like the film could have found a way to structure those moments of tension and revelation throughout the story.

I had heard that the plot unfolded slowly, something that sometimes attracts me, especially in dramas that are built over a slow fire. But, at some moments in The Brutalist, that contemplative rhythm turned into despair.

The framing, the colors, the texture, everything is meticulously taken care of, but, at the same time, something in the experience made me feel that, despite all its splendor, something more was missing.

However when I left the theater, a mixture of emotions enveloped me: admiration, a certain frustration and some doubt.
The film, without a doubt, is a visual feast. The cinematography is impeccable, with photography that invites you to stop at each frame, as if you were watching a painting in motion
