I’d suggest weekly for people actively trying to diet but understand these plateaus and sudden losses happen. I do daily but usually with an app that charts it and I expect fluctuations. Stress, salt intake, carb intake and other factors can make impacts on your body storage of water and glycogen.

Either way, it’s a game of calories in and out. Find the method that works for you and be consistent for weight loss over time. If you’re putting in a good exercise routine maybe have one ‘cheat meal’ a week but don’t overdo it.

The theory behind these things is that as fat cells empty through diet, they are filled with water that’s retained due to higher cortisol levels in the body. This leads to the plateau. The drop happens on overeating because that drops the cortisol level of the body and water weight is shed.
