Doyle also based Holmes on Professor Joseph Bell who did deductions about patients

I liked it fine. The twists were confusing for a while but they were meant to be. I liked how it resolved in the end

Yes, he likes flattery, so I suppose Watson gets in the habit of flattering him all the time to make him happy. :)

Really a wonderful show. I’ll be sad when it ends

It’s quite funny, and I adore Ben Kingsley as Watson

Cool

We did get 2; we just need 3 for a proper trilogy.

I believe Bill Shirley also sang for the prince in Disney's animated "Sleeping Beauty"

I liked Sherlock & Daughter with the part-Native American character. Some people said she was too brash and modern, but Doyle frequently portrayed Americans (and Australians) as being brash, rebellious, and different to rigid Europeans. It's perfectly in line with how Doyle might write.

Which is funny, because ACD was "woke" enough to make the KKK villains in his "Five Orange Pips" story and to make the mixed race family a good thing in "The Yellow Face".
December 8, 2025 at 3:04 PM
But ACD is not perfect, as he had imperialist tendencies and his racist depictions of Tonga in "Sign of Four" and Steve Dixie in "The Three Gables" are notorious. I would like to see people improve those.

I think there is worth in doing remakes, even if the opinion of critics is not universally good. It's worth it to find new approaches to old tales and reckon with changes in society. It astounded me that ACD was a better feminist in writing Irene Adler than modern writers like fucking Moffat!!

I like the idea of the a new Holmes. CBS's Watson is okay as a medical procedural but often frustrating in its writing. I like the Sherlock & Daughter show much more. A new remake could be innovative like the Sherlock and Co. podcast. I hate the writing, though I see others disagree with my opinion

I personally am not fatigued of remakes about Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot. It's a matter of quality of remakes that make a difference to me. I don't like Branaugh's Poirot, though I appreciate his efforts to cast the films diversely. I wish another actor would play it better than him.

Yes, the slashiness! I wrote my PLOSH fic because of that and deleted scenes. Still unfinished though. archiveofourown.org/works/631384... I never have enough time to write.

Yowsie! I just watched the 1931 "Speckled Band" movie starring Raymond Massey, and it was bloody awesome. I think I may have found a new fav...

Is it cut up like Wilder’s Private Life of Sherlock Holmes? Such a shame we don’t have the full movies.
December 5, 2025 at 6:12 PM
Good video! I liked how you discussed Raymond Massey in Speckled Band. I enjoyed a young Holmes in contrast to older actors like Arthur Wontner. Early cases should depict a young Holmes and Watson.

I don’t remember those. I’ll have to look for them. I recently discovered that Alfred from 1966 Batman played Holmes in a TV version of Speckled Band when he was younger.

Oh wait I forgot Ronald Howard. I guess I’d put him at number 4 and bump the others down

That’s the scene Craig Ferguson would make fun of when he did impressions of Angela Lansbury 😄
