Final day of vacation was spent in Twickenham at an 18th century gay man’s summer house. He was also the author of the first gothic novel. I was there for the neo-gothic architecture glory.

Day 8, at Malbork. Largest fortress in Europe. Built by the Teutonic Knights in 14th century, nearly destroyed by the Russian Army in 1945, carefully restored by the Poles over the last 80 years.

Not a fan of swamp tours, as I have an unreasonable fear of big alligators. I don’t need to see them up close! Then a UK friend showed me a photo online of the guide we’d been assigned, and my fear slipped away. Not sure why…something reassuring about the guy, I guess… 🤷♂️
