Indeed! I started with some simple predictive processing models of toy problems like obstacle avoidance and after some success decided to try my hand at a real world example: insect path integration. I’m baffled at how complex it turned out to be. I can’t imagine working on models of humans…

Lovely overview! Do you know if René Thom's Structural Stability and Morphogenesis is still relevant today in epigenetic research? I thought Waddington saw it as the mathematical implementation of his epigenetic landscape which he could not provide.

So happy insect welfare has become a talking point. I remember research into ant odometers which would sever their legs to manipulate stepping distance. That just seems cruel no matter which organism...
