Wrote this on the occasion of Julio Jones' retirement. After Nick Saban, he's probably the most important factor in Alabama's football success this century.

An appreciation of Julio Jones, the generational talent who spearheaded Saban’s Alabama dynasty
The 5-star receiver signed with Crimson Tide in 2008 and helped launch years of program’s sustained success.

There are 8 Curacao natives who have played at least 500 MLB games. Jurickson Profar will be the 6th to play for the Atlanta Braves, joining Andruw Jones, Andrelton Simmons, Ozzie Albies, Kenley Jansen & Randall Simon.

That doesn't include former Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens, also from Curacao.

South Alabama's Barry Dunning had one of those "kid shooting baskets in his backyard" moments at the end of a 64-63 win over Troy on Saturday.

An interesting bit of breaking news this morning — Former McGill-Toolen star & MLB outfielder Bubba Thompson is set to join the South Alabama football team as a walk-on this spring. He was an all-state QB at McT way back in 2016.

Sad to report that Bob Veale, one of Birmingham's baseball greats & an All-Star pitcher with the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1960s, has died. He was 89.

If Georgia beats Notre Dame today, we will be guaranteed a 2-loss national champion for just the 3rd time ever & 1st time since LSU in 2007.

The only other officially recognized national champion with 2 losses was Minnesota in 1960, which went 8-2 & finished No. 1 in both AP & UPI polls.

Interesting coaching matchup between South Alabama's Major Applewhite & Western Michigan's Lance Taylor, who were on Nick Saban's first Alabama staff together in 2007. Taylor is also a Mobile-area native & former Alabama receiver.
