First peek at a new player visual I'm working on.

Things on the radar:
-differentiate quarters
-colour disposals blue if next possession is uncontested to teammate?
-unbold kicks and leave the bold just for scoring shots?
-More legible with symbols than numbers?
-Increase minimum spacing

Something a bit different from me, I'm trying out a print on demand shopfront. First thing up is this score progression of Brisbane's 2025 finals.

#AFLGF

I made the same for Melbourne's 2021 series and it's got pride of place hanging in my office.

There are also great pieces on quantifying goals with/against the run of play, a more critical lens to last week's AFL reporting on GWS' home-ground accuracy advantage, and some actual numbers to the theoretical 20th team discussion.

Getting the jump on Shark Week over at This Week In Football. One of the terms for shark in welsh is "morgi" - literally sea dogs. Only fitting that three dogs find themselves in the top 10 this season

It’s such a good “ask 7 people and they’ll each tell you a different thing is clearly the best possible build” game.

This run almost crashed my game.

This is why Melbourne so desperately needs a proper training base. Any random can walk by Gosch’s paddock and steal our groundbreaking footy IP of “kick to a target”

Alarm bells for Essendon imo. They're poor on volume and quality but that's being papered over to some degree by accuracy. Their volume of shots in particular is really concerning. Richmond and West Coast down the bottom here but they know where they're at.

Melbourne are just under 2.4 standard deviations below the mean for execution. In a normal population that puts them below the 1st percentile for accuracy. Absolutely horrendous. On the plus side, it means there's a decent gameplan and reversion to the mean turns some of those close losses into wins
June 20, 2025 at 6:32 AM
Saints are almost bang on average, while GWS (execution) and Fremantle (quality) have their strengths.

Carlton are over-performing through accuracy which, like adelaide, risks a drop-off in the long-term.
June 20, 2025 at 6:32 AM
Gold Coast and Collingwood are both producing a lot of opportunities, but the Suns are of much higher quality. Still, Collingwood are getting it done with below average execution which is a fine place to be. North are a bizarre case, very few shots, but the ones they do take are in dangerous spots
June 20, 2025 at 6:32 AM
Geelong and Bulldogs are elite on all counts. Adelaide are producing a good volume of shots, but if their execution drops back to average (as you'd expect it to over time) they may take quite a hit because the quality of opportunities they're generating is below league average.
