The mandate for all is to buy low and sell high or face insolvency. But we can't all win the zero-sum game we play in order to be profitable. Someone always has to lose for anyone else to win profits as accounted for in money. Governments fill this role, don't they?

YES! The BIG problems we create for ourselves stem from flawed accounting! We can only afford to spend our time doing that which is accounted for as having value. How enlightening to hear you explain that the values accounted for as profitable are pure confusion!

Excellent point. Workers are told that they have equal standing with firms because they sell their services to firms and buy services from firms. Hooray! Everyone is a businessman buying and selling to other businessmen! But American tax law sure doesn't treat workers that way!

Oh, boy... I try not to think about climate while I'm trying to solve money/power/inequality problems. Livestock dying in heat domes, crops failing generally, outdoor work becoming deadly... what economy is there to speak of then?

Yes. Narcissists absolutely will hijack and sabotage every solution just to try to get everyone else skipping to their tune, however nonsensical. We cannot work with NPDs and need to immunize every effort from their nonsense

If you'd prefer not to deal with Academia.edu, that's understandable. I would be chuffed to send the .pdf via email or messenger app. But I really do want feedback about this model and how close it comes to achieving the political economy you would like to see.

Well, yes. Money power and political power do get tangled up together.

Regulator's purpose is to alter the course of money, and finance's purpose is to alter the course of policy. It's hard to see why money power wouldn't eventually have its way in this struggle.

Labour frustrates the good people of Britain just as the Democrats frustrate the good people here in the USA. And Republicans and Tories are both rotten and pure evil. Can the parties who mean well frustrate us less? What keeps going wrong here and giving caring a bad name?

After helplessly watching the rise of MAGA all around me, I honestly don't know what we humans deserve. We have sown the wind and shall reap the whirlwind. What do we deserve?

What does a tardigrade deserve? Or an armadillo? Or a human? I don't know.

But I do want better. I want us to do better.

Yeah... but the systems create the incentives that weed out good people in politics and reward those with antisocial attitudes. And even corrupt those who try honestly to change things for the better. Systems make the difference between Norway and Somalia. We're all human beings living in systems.

Here's a model for a political economy much like this "politics of care" that you are describing: www.academia.edu/resource/wor...

My approach to creating this model was to change what is accounted for by money. Money is quantified credit, and, credit need not be that which returns bank profits.
Accounting for Contribution and Commitment
This is a book about the psychological basis of concepts of credit, and how various different concepts of credit serve as the seed crystals around with cultures form. With this knowledge, it is possib...

Hmm... yes. I have that issue as well. I love my induction stove, but I do not love all those issues you describe. Wet fingers. Drops of water on the control surface. Really unnecessary annoyances

Curing cancer without also killing the patient is tricky.

But, so is stopping climate change (caused by economic activity) without killing the economy humans depend on to survive -tricky.
