I've just updated the mythology database to allow people to search mythemes, a huge evolution in how to research Folklore. So just search for those for food, and then check out the related narratives. Any questions, just ask :)

A concise article, however I wish you'd mentioned Yuri Berezkin's work, far more useful in studying/mapping myths than the ATU, and is now translated and offered as a free and expanded resource by myself (mythologydatabase.com).

A concise article, however I wish you'd mentioned Yuri Berezkin's work, far more useful in studying/mapping myths than the ATU, and is now translated and offered as a free and expanded resource by myself (mythologydatabase.com).
Their root is more to do with immortality, in the sense that I'll give you fruit to stop you being hungry, and in return I'll take your immortality. That is in essence the root of the story from Genesis, and is adapted from older African tales.
