As a non-practicing Catholic, I do think some of this is about recent Catholic converts who focus on the wrong things.

Also, I feel like the fact that Catholicism seems to be finally pushing back against Trumpism, which is turning off a lot of those people who thought they were good Catholics, but really, really aren't.
