You can technically get out, they do have a manual switch, but yes it’s designed very poorly.

Not to mention that battery fires are generally more dangerous than gas related fires, although they do occur much less often.

globally, so one would expect at least 1% (2,000) of those car fires to be from EVs. However, at least from what I can find, only about 120 of those car fires were from EVs.

Batteries do have the potential to cause significantly more dangerous fires, but they actually catch on fire significantly less often than gas powered engines. In the US there were somewhere in the neighborhood of 200,000 car fires in 2022. All EVs have somewhere in the ballpark of a 1% marketshare
