Before the 17th century rolled around people who'd discover the teeth of megalodon and other species of prehistoric shark would misidentify these teeth for the tounge tips of dragons

The first dinosaur fossil description ever written was by Robert Plot in 1677, although when it was described they believed it to be the thigh bone of a human giant. This along with noting it having a similar look to male genitals landed it the name "Scrotum Humanum".
