This account covers the ATP and WTA tours as the world burns around us.
I was really impressed with Venus Williams's performance against Peyton Stearns yesterday. She was hitting the ball with real authority. Tonight, so far, Frech is making Venus look her age by hitting slices that reveal deficiencies in Venus's footwork. (Unsurprising, of course. Age is undefeated.)

He's down a set already, but I like Kovacevic's one-handed backhand quite a bit. His game is developing. But for a loose game at the end of the first set, he's been the better player overall so far. #tennis

Krejcikova out, and fourth round matchups are set on women's side. I'm most looking forward to Swiatek-Tauson and Noskova-Anisimova. Lots of unexpected names in the last 16...a product of all the upsets.

That drop shot that Sabalenka hit while set point down to Raducanu in the first set tiebreaker, after blowing seven set points of her own earlier, is for me the shot of the tournament so far. When she hit it, I was sure it was going into the net. Good chance she loses the match if she misses...

No better sign that this has been a tournament of upsets than the fact that Laura Siegemund, who came into the tournament ranked #104 in the world, will play Sierra, a lucky loser, for a spot in the quarterfinals. #tennis #Wimbledon

Some really interesting third round matches on the women's side coming up tomorrow and Saturday: Krejcikova-Navarro, Swiatek-Collins, Tauson-Rybakina, and of course, Sabalenka-Raducanu. #tennis #Wimbledon

Qualifier Holmgren saves three match points against Machac to win in five sets. 27 years old and in his debut at a major tournament. Incredible. #tennis #Wimbledon

Danielle Collins through in less than an hour. That section of the bracket is looking quite interesting. Between Collins, Swiatek (still to play McNally), and Rybakina (currently playing Sakkari), only one can reach the quarterfinals. #tennis #Wimbledon #DanielleCollins

Fritz gets through again. If he has the stamina to keep going (he's played two five setters and won two tournaments in the last three weeks), the draw is wide open to the semis. As for Diallo, promising showing. He needs to work on his second serve, obviously. #tennis #Wimbledon

Another five-setter for Fritz. This early part of the draw ended up being brutal for him.

Fritz really went into lockdown mode against Diallo in that third set tiebreak. Diallo is having a hard time hanging in the exchange of groundstrokes. #tennis #Wimbledon

So far on the men's side, Brooksby and Fucsovics have earned their way back into the top 100. On the women's side, Jacquemot, Siegemund, Sasnovich and Sierra are into the top 100.

This is a pretty stunning read on what has been happening at the Justice Department.

Ons Jabeur looked really listless in her match against Maya Joint in Eastbourne today. Her game has really dropped off a great deal following her Wimbledon loss in 2023.

Congrats to Amanda Anisimova on the win in Qatar. Maybe the 1000-level title can be a sign of bigger things for her this year, like it was for Paolini last year.

It worked out pretty well for Jannik Sinner. A three month ban means he doesn't miss any majors. He'll miss the Sunshine Double, but all in all that's about as good a result as could have been expected for him.

Payments from across the state did not come in for state funded families today. Centers did not receive funds. #ohio #dcy #dystopia

On a meeting with Ohio Department of Children and Youth. They also have no idea what is going on with funding. They are learning about this just as the general public is, through the "news" what a joke. #dystopia #earlyeducation

The BBHOF election of Ichiro, Sabathia, and Wagner has now truly unclogged the HOF ballot. If I had a vote, next year I think I would only vote for four players: Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, Carlos Beltran, and Andruw Jones.
