Abbie! Yeah, I do actually like Watership Down a lot. It more than deserves its spot in the literary canon. But personally, I like HU more, I think it does some XF stuff particularly well. It’s made me feel emotions only a handful of other books ever have. Looking forward to Thrive!

Like when Oslo reveals Naito supposedly wants to kill Elite, it falls flat because we have already been inside Naito’s head enough to know he genuinely loves him. So yeah, pretty mediocre book, might give it a 4/10. Naito is good boy though

OK your posts about this book convinced me to read it, and it was…okay? The story is kind of fun, but the writing is so awkward! The author flits between every character’s POV - sometimes mid paragraph - when the whole book could have worked fine from Wulfur, Elite, and I guess Quade’s perspective.

I loved the trippy ideas and unfathomable scope of the book, but I found the way the characters reacted to things hard to buy. Like, the idea of global mass hysteria due to people learning about the doomsday argument is laughable.
