Oh yeah, if there’s a Dusttale-style AU that’s easy to recommend to all kinds of people, it’d be Doctor Megalo.

It’s simple and relatively straightforward, but that’s to its benefit. Makes it super easy to get someone to try and read it compared to other takes, even if they’re similar in quality.

“Freedom” again, so his foe is The Player (the one from that timeline, at least), someone who cares only for their own curiosity above all else.

Doctor Megalo is someone with a broken conscious, so her foe is a Frisk who’s capable of redemption and fixing their mistakes. ‘S pretty cool.

Also, another thing to mention that’s nice about these two AUs is that their respective humans actually have some amount of parallel to their adversary, rather then just being a generic template for us to play as/watch/read.

You and your colleagues fail at defeating this one foe, and you’re subjected to having to watch them die over and over again, will mess your psyche up completely.

With no other feasible options, of course they’d take the only one that seems remotely successful.

Plus, let’s be honest, sans and Alphys can keep themselves together, but remembering 100s of timelines where-

Following Canon/Novel Dust’s example, sans/The Murderer of the AU should be given a good reason for why they have to try killing.

Canon/Novel establish this by making it a point that sans has already tried all other options to no avail. And the few options left are…insufficient to say the least.

I think one aspect that shines through for a lot of Dust fangames that end up following Evan’s formula (to their detriment) is the fact that so many of them focus exclusively on the Human’s POV and rarely go for the Murderer’s.

The Human is important, sure, but so is the main lead of the whole AU.
