As an outsider, I'm focused on whether the president or the individual state control their own National Guard. If States retain control, there is at least a chance of civil war and succession. If the Fed/Pres has control, then the Republic is cooked.

They didn't. That doesn't mean all Americans are Nazis. It just means the Nazis were never removed, and so it's not a surprise when you find that they're still there and have grown as voting base.

Genocides actually are slow and are not impulsive at all. There has been a lot of study on them. It requires such intense dehumanization it can take generations.

I think only swift action rather than voting can stop an authoritarian seizing power.
However given so many Americans can't even agree genocide is bad, I think there is a lot of fragmentation. Christian Nationalism loves the idea of genociding POC and Jewish people. That makes it dangerous.
