The body of the email states: I’m told that you guys need to know this, so here goes: 1. I woke up every morning. 2. Every day, I watched in horror while the current administration dismantled or hamstrung integral governmental institutions. 3. I discovered that the current administration is trying to extort the Ukrainian government to end the war with Russia, while offering literally nothing in return, other than pro-Russian terms so harsh and unrealistic that post-WWI Germans would have been like, “oh damn, that’s a bad deal.” 4. I had boba. It was yummy. 5. Not for the first time, I wondered if the current administration cheated to win the election, but still wasn’t enough of a whiny bitch to storm the capitol and attack people just doing their jobs. Thinking about getting into comic books, but don't know where to start? I have good news!
Legendary artist Jim Lee (no relation to Stan) is doing another Batman run starting with March's issue 158. Written by Jeph Loeb, his last run was in 2003, and it was a solid tale that introduced Hush, a new villain who's since become a fan-favorite. This story will be "Hush 2," and seeing as it reunites Lee and Loeb, it's a good bet that it'll be worth reading. And even if the story's crap, Lee is one of the best pencilers in the business. He had a now-classic run on Marvel's Uncanny X-Men back in the late '80s/early '90s, then kickstarted the adjectiveless X-Men series before jumping ship to co-found Image Comics. He's since hooked up with DC Comics (a team-up that would have shocked '90s comics fans to the core), penciling the aforementioned Batman run, as well as a run on Superman. He's now the President, Publisher, and Chief Creative Officer of DC, and often draws covers for various DC comics, but (as far as I know) this is the first time in years that he'll have drawn an entire comic, let alone an entire run. It's an exciting time to be a fan of bitchin' comic book art! But don't take my word for it. Check out some of his covers from his first Batman run! Cover of Batman #611, published in 2003, penciled by Jim Lee and inked by long-time collaborator Scott Williams. It depicts Catwoman tangled in vines in the foreground, looking distressed. In the midground and almost entirely sheathed in shadows, Batman stands behind her, arms raised so his cape spreads out in a vague approximation of the Batsymbol, while the Gotham skyline lurks in the background. It features a grumpy-looking Superman casually holding Batman by the throat with his right hand, while Batman kneels, struggling to free himself, both hands grasping uselessly at Superman's powerful forearm.
