A very tragic case!

A victim who, unbeknownst to him, became part of my client's delusions. Now, with the NCR finding, my client can receive the treatment he desperately needs in a hospital rather than continuing to suffer from intense delusions in the penitentiary.

What is the cost of the war on reasonable bail? My client spent 19 months in PSC for a serious charge. Ultimately, he was convicted of assault, and his sentence accounted for 4 months of that PSC. The rest? Wasted—without any means of compensation. #bail #jail

I cannot be happier for James and Innocence Canada. They have advocated and worked on this for years. It is now a reality!!
Bill C-40 - Miscarriage of Justice Review Commission Act - is now law. Finally.

To quote James Lockyer when he first introduced David & Joyce Milgaard’s Law with the Minister of Justice in late Feb. 2023, “this is the best news for the wrongly convicted in Canada”.

It truly is.

If the politicians had their way, she would have been forced to remain in custody for 15 months before having the chance to clear her name. This case highlights the real consequences of their grandstanding on bail reform for ordinary people. #bail

Bail is important because it serves as a critical component of the criminal justice system, which most importantly is balancing the rights of the accused. #bail
