1/2. Courts have been activists based on the judges political leanings for a very long time but they seem to have taken a much harder turn in expressing the judicial political leanings.

We can only hope! The Supreme Court has been particularly unreliable in their rulings. Also, if something is brought in front of a far-right court (judge or appeals court) the rulings often seem to go to the extreme right cause...not necessarily in the apparent lawful direction.1/1

He doesn't want him back. I honestly think that tRump told him before the press got there that he needed him to say he would not return him. This kind of gets Rump out of obeying the Supreme Court ruling.
