Sat next to Thundercat at a Steely Dan show at Hollywood Bowl. Dude was on his feet the entire show, knew every word to every song and smelled great!

There is definitely streaming fraud/spam that goes on. I've heard about it most extensively re small labels/artists who game the system using bots (and more recently, use AI to generate songs in bulk). Stands to reason that the majors would practice the dark arts, too.

I think it's a moot point. The song was a legitimate monster hit. All the payola in the world can't mint that.
