Why would people trust digital services if it could leave you on the wrong side of government policy with no right to appeal?

Text truncated But on 25 March the Home Office finally responded, saying: "Unfortu-nately your application is not valid and we are unable to accept it." The rejection letter went on to say: "The required application process for someone applying as a family member of a relevant naturalised British citizen is to use the appropriate paper form. Your application was made online. There is no right of appeal in respect of an invalid application." It added that Olszewska did not have the right to be in the UK as her visa had expired, and that the consequences of staying unlawfully included being detained, fined, imprisoned, removed and banned from returning to the UK. The paper form of an application to stay must be requested from the Home Office, which adds the applicant's name to it and then supplies it by email. The applicant must then print it out, fill it in and post it back. The Home Office has said it is moving its immigration system online, but some applications must still be done on paper. Olszewski said: "This is a big disgrace from the Home Office. It was only after almost six months that they told us the application was invalid. Home Office told the Guardian it did not comment on individual cases.

Not quite the same but I grew tired of poorly written outcomes that I designed some training around it…

I wrote some rules and also essentially said, you should map your measurable to rationales in the green book.
Rules: (what) does not describe solution specifics. (When) does not describe delivery milestones. (How) does not describe delivery methodology. (Who) does not mention people are roles required to deliver it. Rationale themes (why). 1. Maintain service continuity arising from the need to replace some factor in the existing delivery process. 2. to improve efficiency of service provision 3. to increase the quantity or improve a service 4. To comply with a regulatory change. 5. To provide a new service. Measurable qualitative/quantitative

Just wrapped up at Housing Community Conference today. Was good to see delegates from local gov and housing associations, as well as our friends and partners in the sector, and some central gov agencies we’ve built digital services for with a stand.

But my goodness it’s tiring exhibiting.

From the observer front page I was astonished by this stat. It doesn’t line up with my understanding of unemployment rate, so I’m guessing it’s based on a different measure.
