Essek is climbing up and Caleb is descending; in the moment of their passing each other, Caleb has clutched Essek's hand in his arms and drawn it to his face. He presses his lips to Essek's forearm like he doesn't wish Essek to leave, but this is the only part of Essek he can reach. Essek has turned his face to the wall with a stricken expression. Neither of them wants the moment to be over, but they cannot stay. In less than a moment after the scene in this painting, they will have departed. The only evidence they were there will be the strand of pearls scattered on the floor: fortune, slipped through their fingers.

I don't know who needs to know this, but Pro Publica has an online thing that will format a letter to your US health insurance company to demand the records behind a claim denial. (which the insurance is then legally required to provide in most cases)
