The New Yorker, say, doesn’t cover games like film, theater, books, or music. But the game audience doesn’t care even about the possibility of such coverage. And most of the industry wants the recognition but nothing else.

Games are famously sensitive to not being “taken seriously” by outside bodies, but it is also actively indifferent or even hostile to anyone trying to actually take games seriously as cultural objects, even internally.

No yeah. Maybe I need to extend money to include markers of power and influence. But it still isn’t culture as most other media at least has room to consider.

“Don’t be puritan about your prose” is perfect advice.

It is indeed not a castle in the classical sense, but it’s a cool building, and worth a visit. (I love Chicago.)
