After the 1911 season, Tiger great Ty Cobb signed w/ a stock company to star in "The College Widow," a play by George Ade. Cobb toured with the troupe for 10 weeks drawing some positive reviews. One critic wrote Cobb was "a better ballplayer than any actor, and a better actor than any ballplayer."

I love this crowd shot I found last night taken of fans gathering in the Shibe Park stands in Philadelphia prior to Game 1. A's fans must have been very confident before that game. Two things stand out -- the variety of hats the men of that time wore and second, how few women were in attendance.
