Donated to @royalasiaticsoc.bsky.social in 1852 as ‘a North American Indian drawing, or picture writing’, this (fabulous) image lacks precise identification. Anybody out there have ideas? Know someone who would? (More info at royalasiaticsociety.org/artworks-dig...)

Very fine Hiroshige exhibition at BM, includes van Gogh’s own copy of one of the great prints (the drawing pin holes somehow rather moving)

This forthcoming book with @reaktionbooks.bsky.social wouldn't look the way it does without support from Leverhulme Trust, who gave a grant which paid for the crucial pics, and the researcher to get hold of them. Thankyou @leverhulme.ac.uk .

Good, indeed, and thank you to @themountaingoats.bsky.social for putting so elegantly what I was hoping to say by reaching for the 'Echo Chamber' metaphor, to write about new resonances and rhythms, as ideas about art passed back and forth between early 20th c. China and Europe.

The picture featured is the 1542 'Marshal Wang, www.metmuseum.org/art/collecti... an image of a protective deity which unusually (uniquely?) bears an inscription telling us the donor was an imperial consort
