Here's the issue:

SGM Minority stress processes are largely inflexible, stable across contexts (BPD criterion C), with impacts traced back to earliest development (BPD criterion D).

What we consider indicators of intra-individual deficiency reflect the effects of chronic environmental stress.

BUT, SGM populations are excluded from this literature (e.g., biological correlates) and the prevailing framing really doesn't account for how heterosexism and cisnormativity create powerful social forces that map onto every aspect of BPD theory, research, and treatment.

🚨New Paper Alert🚨

We did a qual. study to understand how providers justified agreement/disagreement w the BPD diagnosis.

TLDR: No differences based on SGM status of the vignette. BUT differences found were based on professional status.
