I've convened CSS sessions with lecturers wanting to give tutorials in R as the primary language, but they've inevitably had to involve Python at some stage. I've observed but much less frequently seen the reverse. This isn't a bait, but why not just start with Python?

This summer wasn't too bad to be fair!
The first is with the Oxford EPSRC CDT in Healthcare Data Science 🧑💻💊, and the second with the DPhil in Population Health 🌍📊. Both need serious programming chops 💪, but each tackles different big questions — so hopefully there’s something here for everyone to get excited about! 🚀
