heh, the irony is that most buddhist schools of thought don't really forbid anything (yea there's precepts, but it's really flexible for the layperson), instead focusing on breaking those cycles of temptation and struggling themselves

right... so, in the context of this thread about anarchy and hostility towards other humans, the best you can do is look towards the ethical and philosophical principles presented by that religion, bc any actually existing religion or government is going to include violence bc it's made of humans

yea, again I'm just looking for the least violent religion. do you have one you'd describe as such?
November 16, 2025 at 11:04 PM
yea, I'm speaking from a religio-philosophical perspective. is there *any* religion without violent practicioners? maybe sikh or Jain?

I've never heard a description of an anarchist society that effectively grapples with those realities, and unfortunately are wholly susceptible to being hijacked by bad actors. it's society-by-norms, and we've seen how overreliance on norms goes when evil people grasp at the levers of power

the Heart Sutra lists these paradoxes, e.g. a world free of ignorance and free of the extinguishment of ignorance. it's an acceptance that, in the fullness of life, you have to accept everything that comes with it. in pursuing one extreme, we give rise of the other extreme, and vice versa

even the most peaceful religion I know of - Mahayana Buddhism, which means "the great vehicle" and aspires for enlightenment of all sentient beings - fundamentally asserts the reality that boundlessness is both free of suffering and free of the freedom of suffering

I'll try to sum up without catching the ban: Uncle Toms of the Latin American world, selling out their brothers and sisters at the mere chance of being regarded as authentically white by the neoconfederates. good little fascists.

it's kinda flat tbh. too easy

yep, Tolkien described them specifically being "Mongol" in his letters

their reasoning might still suck, but - thanks to the House - there's still significant pressure that we're finally cracking through

it's not obvious what is going to get through to the majority, so it makes sense that it has to be a multi-axis assault on Trump's popularity. in the end, I think the most important thing was they didn't give up on the shutdown until after elections

I meant it more as a colloquial phrase, in a largely metaphorical way. you're right for their shitty version of heaven and hell

redistricting for me but not for thee

fascism really is just "dishing it out without being able to take it" as an ideology. it's so pathetic

also, unless servant is an immutable individual characteristic, he's directly comparing those "blue-collar workers" to aforementioned servants

the hyper-fixation on tearing benefits away from the "unworthy" is a cultural degeneration that I don't know how to talk about in objective terms from the perspective of liberalism
