The passage of time is humbling. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary tonight. We don’t feel that we’ve aged much, but the pictures tell a different story. Still, it has been a wonderful life so far.

If a news article is discussing a court decision, is it too much to ask for a hyperlink to the court opinion or order? Asking for someone who has to review court decisions to determine whether they’re sustainable. That’s me.

Taking in all the best that Dana Point has to offer. Such a beautiful part of the world.

Not sure if it’s an algorithm issue or something else, but I’ve spent the last week testing Bluesky against Twitter/X by going up with identical posts on both. Most of my Twitter/X posts lately are getting dozens, and often hundreds, of likes. But on Bluesky, crickets. What gives? 🤷‍♂️

Today I turn 63 and my heart is full. I have a loving family, a large circle of dear friends, and a career that has exceeded my wildest dreams. If it all ends tomorrow, I’ll think I had a perfect life. But I want to stay around for a long, long time to see what happens next. 😊

A modern-day Icarus, this man flew too close to the sun.

If you aspire to be an appellate judge, you should probably know that I’ve been here Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday, and 12 hours on Monday. I’ll be here late into the night tonight and then on the bench tomorrow. Glamorous, eh? At this rate, I might even make partner! 😬

Looks like this airport has gone to the dogs. Seems dangerous, but least there are signs telling them where to go. 🤷‍♂️

Listening to a lecture about tariffs this morning from a renowned economist. Anyone who thinks tariffs are a good idea for any country has absolutely no idea how tariffs work. None.

Greetings from Key West! Have you really been to Florida if you haven’t gone to the end of the line? 😉☀️

It’s a three-briefcase oral argument schedule for me this week. Mountains of reading, but some VERY interesting issues to debate and discuss.

If we judges are going to sanction attorneys for frivolous filings, I propose that this is the standard we should use. 😉

Vancouver is a beautiful city, but you have to watch out for the flying dump trucks. 😬

The “birds aren’t real” crowd needs to fully understand the extent of the problem. One of these drones found me in my hotel room eight stories up in Canada. 😒

Dressed casually and smiling broadly today because I’m going to visit one of my twins to begin celebrating the twins’ 20th birthday. How can time go by so quickly? I still think of them as my little girls, but they’re now all grown up and successful adults. 🥲 #GirlDad

Then I sprinted from Detroit to Kalamazoo to watch my daughter Natalie sing with her choir. 🎶

What a wild, exiting day it has been! First, I drove to Detroit to conduct a Court of Claims hearing and attend the investiture of my new Court of Appeals colleague, Judge Randy Wallace.

Thank you to my beloved alma mater, The University of Illinois, for a great visit! I’ll be a proud #Illini till the day I die. I-L-L!

Although my principal job these days is judging on the Michigan Court of Appeals, I also serve as a trial judge on the Michigan Court of Claims. That’s my role all day today, and being a trial judge feels like coming home again, so I’ll be smiling all day long. 😊

Just arriving on Bluesky has been an amusing experience. It feels like walking into the high school lunch room and looking around for my friends who must be in there somewhere. 😬😉

If I hear one more person refer to a contingency when the proper word is contingent, I’m going to scream.
